Tameside provides students and local employers access to some of the very best teaching and facilities in the UK. They provide part time and full time courses for qualifications such as National Diplomas, A-Levels, Entry Level to Higher Education, Apprenticeships and Beauty & Nail Qualifications.
Dust and Vapour in the Classroom
When natural or false nails are shaped with a file a cloud of fine dust is created which may be inhaled by the student. This dust is a health hazard as it can settle in the lungs causing coughing and potentially occupational asthma. The vapour released by certain nail products can also cause conditions such as headaches and nausea.
For these reasons many Health & Safety and other Government bodies around the world recommend that nail technicians use nail stations which incorporate extraction fans and filters to safely remove dust and vapour before it can be inhaled. This is exactly what Thameside college did.
Matthew Bumford from the college said, "We chose PUREX to comply with health and safety regulations and requirements, with regards to extraction of dust and odours and the new nail station systems have helped with this. They were also chosen because of the very professional appearance they have, we try to show our students that they must take a professional approach in their work. The workstations are also very practical to use, the layout is great, and they have a 4-way extraction system to safely remove dust and fumes when carrying out practical sessions."
Purex workstations are used on beauty courses, such as:
- NVQ Level 1 in Beauty Therapy
- NVQ’s for both Level 2 and 3, in General Beauty Therapy
- BTEC National Diploma in Beauty Therapy
- NVQ Level 3 Nail Technician
The higher level students often put on clinics for the public to use these workstations, and to help the students gain experience in their practice.
